Bradley Names Transition Team
Members Represent Diverse Backgrounds

Mayor-Elect Adam Bradley announced his nine-member volunteer transition team Nov. 20. The group, comprised of nine professionals from a diverse cross-section of political, social, business, legal, and educational fields, is headed by Transition Team Executive Director Judy Chriss.

Ryan Holds District 5 Seat

Bill Ryan has won reelection to the County Board of Legislators, District 5, representing White Plains and Scarsdale, defeating challenger Bob Hyland. Initial results indicate Ryan won by 136 votes after an absentee ballot count.
Early reports had Hyland ahead by 44 votes before the absentee ballots had been accounted for, but a reporting error of some100 votes in Ryan’s favor were found earlier this week during a recanvas.

Volunteer Connection
Make A Difference Day,

The Volunteer Center of the United Way is working with hundreds of volunteers to alleviate the hunger, loneliness, and emotional suffering that are all too prevalent in an era of economic depression and war. Volunteers are needed for two collection drives: a food drive to help feed the hungry and a drive for care packages for injured soldiers returning home to a hospital stay.
Collections are being done until “Make A Difference Day,” Oct. 24 when they will be distributed to those in need.

County District 5 Winner Undetermined
Absentee Votes to Determine if Ryan/Hyland Seated

In a close vote between Bill Ryan (5,412 votes) and Bob Hyland (5,456 votes) for the County District 5 seat, outstanding absentee ballots will determine the winner. In this race, Ryan won votes from Democrats (5,186) and the Working Families Party (226). Hyland gained support from Republicans (4,351), Independence (698) and Conservatives (407).

Bradley, Next Mayor of White Plains
Dems Take All Council Seats

It’s confirmed, Adam Bradley will be the next Mayor of White Plains. The tally is 7,755 votes as all 43 election districts reported results by late morning, Nov. 4.
Endorsed by five parties, Bradley’s total, as listed on the Westchester County Board of Elections website, is comprised of 64 percent Democratic, 26 percent Republican, 4 percent Independence, 3 percent Conservative, and 2 percent Working Families Party.
Completing the White Plains Democratic ticket, Thomas Roach, David Buchwald, and Beth Smayda, took all three of the open Common Council seats confirming a completely Democratic city government in White Plains.

Council Passes
City Budget

The White Plains 2009-2010 city budget was passed Thursday morning, May 28, at $146,467,408. The property tax rate is $157.06 per $1,000 of assessed valuation, which is up from the 2008-2009 budget rate of $147.47 per $1,000 of assessed value.
